The largest cash prize in gaming history is being offered at the CPL’s Winter World Championships, in a contest for the Halo 3 game, at the upcoming "Extreme Winter Championship" tournament in Dallas, Texas, from Dec 18 to Dec 22.
The CPL is in its 10th year of operation, and one of the largest competitive gaming organizations in the world. Since it began inception in 1997, the Dallas-based league has had over 60 international main events, with over $3 million in cash giveaway prizes to more than 600,000 gamers.
The money is part of a combined total prize pot for the Halo 3 portion of the games. The Xbox Halo 3 World Champion, will receive a $250,000 cash payout, while the remaining $750,000 will be divided amongst the next 64 people.
The Halo 3 portion of the tournament does not require pre-qualification or previous tournament experience, and is is open to all gamers and. Registration is $475 for standard registration or $275 for early birders that register before November 2nd.
