Alright, this game took FOREVER to complete. The only game that ranks with this one, as far as length, is The Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess. The amount of tasks and side tasks was immense. The game in that aspect was well worth its price. The battles and obtaining your brush strokes were unique and fun to take part in. The only problem keeping this game from being an easy 10 was some of the control schematics. Using your motion sensor Wii remote to complete the paint brush strokes, at times could be very frustrating. This was very evident in the various digging stages, which were difficult to begin with; but add to that the inability to make certain strokes to complete an objective in a timed format made this issue a glaring flaw. Another area that raised some questions from me is the fact that you have to fight the games bosses twice! It was difficult enough to beat some of them the first time; but at the end of the game, you have to defeat them again! What’s up with that?! And the final boss is very difficult to beat. It took me over 45 minutes to do that one alone. He never ends. He just keeps changing into different forms over and over. When you think you’ve finally beat him, he turns into a giant hand, and then he really becomes a pain! I’m out of breath just thinking about it, again.
Graphics: 10
The graphics were incredible and very detailed. However, they weren’t in the way you would think of most graphics; all the images were done in Japanese watercolor art. These were the most beautiful and unique graphics I have ever seen!
Sound: 8
The sound effects met their intended purposes; they’re nothing to write home about, but they were not bland either. The fact that the character all mumble with various sounds was a little odd, but the sub-text let you know what they were saying.
Difficulty: Medium to Slightly Difficult
Concept: 10
The games concept is to obtain 13 celestial brush strokes to bring peace back to a native land. Evil lurks throughout the entire region, where you have to defeat various foes to bring beauty back to the area. While doing this, you are brought through a very detailed story line, showing the struggles of the many people and their villages. In the end, you’re trying to block history from repeating itself from the evil Orochi. He comes around every 100 years, on a moonlit night, to reek havoc on the innocent villages. One of the best side tasks is trying to find 100 scattered beads throughout the lands. I never found them all, since I lost my patience; if you do find them, however, than if you choose to play this epic again, you are invincible!
Overall: 8
This game was certainly fun to play. It was LONG, LONG game with a great deal of material. You certainly feel a sense of accomplishment when you finally beat the game. The game could have and should have been a 10. As noted, however, some of the issues with completing the brush strokes prevented this from being the case.
